My name is Claire Carey and I am the Coordinator of Columban Companions in Ireland. I have been working as Coordinator since September 2008. Over the years I have been connected with the Columban Missionaries in a variety of ways. I spent some years as a lay missionary in Korea and then worked as Coordinator of Columban Lay Mission in Ireland, so I am very glad to be reconnected with the work and mission of the Columbans through this new initiative.
I welcome opportunities to meet with people who are interested in connecting with our network and through personal contact and through this website I hope that Columban Companions will offer you opportunities to:
- Stay connected and informed with news of Columban Mission in Ireland and overseas
- Share in opportunities for reflection and debate on issues of faith, justice and ecology
- Link with people both locally and overseas who see to work in solidarity and hope for a better world
- Become involved in projects and events that support the Columban concerns and deepen our understanding of mission
- Make use of our resources for action and reflection on justice, ecology and building respect between cultures and faiths
- Deepen your spirituality and share in our vision to create a more just world, where people of different cultures and faiths respect each other, and are mindful of the web of creation that sustains us all.
I look forward to keeping you connected with the Columbans and their work in both in Ireland and overseas. The email address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

former lay missionary in Brasil
Well done to all involved in the Columban Companions website. Now we have a 'concrete' place to reconnect with other Columbans and who knows where that can lead. I hope to visit your stall at the Farmer's Market soon. Take care, Kevin.
Sons and Daughters of Columban Companions
Best wishes to the Columbancompanions team with the launch of the new website - there is no doubt it will gather many stories past and present including this little addition: Two boys meet on their first day at school and consequently the two dads meet and rediscover old friendships as former lay-missionaries - one Irish (Korean LM) the other Fijian (Irish LM). A friendship that began fifteen years ago in Dublin Airport, continues in a new way today in County Galway and hopefully will be further nourished and strengthened by this new forum that connects us worldwide.
